Out of the many things that we didn’t understand about the recently held 16th annual Lux Style Awards is how celebrities responded when asked about feminism and what it means to them. Men turned out to be more direct about it while most women refused to comment.

Out of the many things that we didn’t understand about the recently held 16th annual Lux Style Awards is how celebrities responded when asked about feminism and what it means to them. Men turned out to be more direct about it while most women refused to comment.

A ‘feminist’ for Ali Zafar is “somebody who cares about what women care about” while designer Kamiar Rokni equated ‘feminism’ with ‘humanism’. However, it is unfortunate that our actresses who are independent and a source of inspiration for a lot of people didn’t have much to say on the subject.

Sanam Saeed said feminism is “overrated” while designer Shehla Chatoor stated that she doesn’t believe in feminism.

We asked Saba Qamar to share her views on this topic  during an interview to which she questioned, “Do these women know what feminism is?”

“Feminism is a responsibility,” the actress told Instep. “Being a feminist is a whole lot of responsibility in the form of mother, a sister, a worker as well as dealing with society. I have to promote my film, go for shooting, look after my household and also face the government officials for tax related affairs. It’s a kind of sacrifice for women. A woman is strong enough to deal with all of this.”

On work front, Qamar is gearing up for the release of her Bollywood debut film Hindi Medium alongside Irrfan Khan that will release on May 12, this year.
