It has been a fashion and style heavy month for Pakistan. Designers, models and other celebrities have had a very busy schedule, with numerous fashion weeks and the recently concluded Lux Style Awards, deciding on the countless public appearances they’ve had to make. Regardless, the show must go on and that’s why the QMobile Hum Showcase commenced as per schedule, attracting all of the who’s who of the fashion industry.

Fashion Magazine Grazia presented a capsule collection with Momina Teli and Deepak n Fahad. Al-Zohaib textiles also presented a collection featuring Christina Senter in collaboration with artist Maurizio Boscheri.

According to the Show Director, Rizwan Beyg, the idea behind Showcase was to encourage designers to make cutting edge statements with their work. “We want to present fashion that is truly creative on a non-political platform which doesn’t require membership and where ateliers are selected on merit,” shared Beyg. “This may not be ready-to-wear that is immediately marketable and we hope that our lineup of designers understands this and create exciting, cutting-edge statements.”

There were a few collections that took advantage of the platform’s freedom and one of them was Wardha Saleem’s Mon Amour, Babushka. The collection was crafted with the most luxurious fabrics and sinfully beautiful shades of blue. Paying homage to Russian imagery, Saleem’s collection was one of the most well received collections of the day.

Another designer who really stood out was Inaaya with Tabeer. The brand stuck to their signature style and presented a collection that is both fashionable and wearable. Wide legged trousers of varying lengths ruled the runway and we loved how the brand continued to incorporate traditional Sindhi ralli work into their designs.

Faraz Manan’s Mirage Luxury Resort Collection was undeniably beautiful and even though the platform was encouraging designers to think out of the box, Manan stuck to his strengths and played it safe. The other big name of the day, Nomi Ansari also played to his strength, which is colour and construction. His collection, A Night in Paradise, was visually splendid.

Menswear designer Jazib Qamar is best suited to what Beyg is trying to achieve with this new fashion platform because the designer is always pushing the envelope and his collections are always quirky and out-of-the-box.
