Three trends to keep in mind when planning your wardrobe
for the upcoming season.

It pains us to even write these words but the truth is, spring is upon us. Don’t get us wrong, we love spring; it’s what heralds after that leaves us full of dread. Winter is over all too soon and it’s time to start prepping for summer. While there’s not much one can do about what is predicted to be another record breaking heat wave this year, we can help you face soaring temperatures better, sartorially at least. Here are three trends that you definitely want to keep in mind when planning your wardrobe for the upcoming season, because with a little bit of help from us, you’re going to be a trend setter, not follower.

Denim

That’s right ladies, denim is here to stay. And by denim we don’t just mean jeans and jackets, the use of denim has permeated into every facet of style imaginable. Don’t believe us? Just look up denim hair.

There’s an entire new hair colour trend that aims to replicate the textured tone of denim on your luscious locks. Obviously, the trend isn’t for the faint-hearted or for people who love their hair (the amount of bleaching required for the colouring process is a sacrifice you must be willing to make) but the use of denim is more accessible than this. Just turn to any major high-street retailer across the country and you’ll find not only denim kurtas and tunics but entire ranges dedicated to the material. Generation, Sapphire and Nishat (who, a little birdie told us, is planning to do denim shalwars this season) all have denim collections in store already. Take if from us, tis the season to be blue.

Ruffles

Ruffles are new the off/cold shoulder trend this season. You’re going to see it everywhere; in every material ranging from cotton and lawn to silk and tulle, runways, red carpets, street style and in stores. The thing with ruffles is though, it’s not an easy trend to rock. Unlike velvet or off shoulder silhouettes, ruffles are not universally flattering and have to be styled appropriately to prevent the look from becoming dowdy or overwhelming. Since the average Pakistani woman isn’t exactly Amazonian in height and doesn’t have the most svelte body, ruffles around the empire line, bodice or waist are better avoided. Also big ruffles take panache to carry off so if you’re uncertain, opt for bunches of smaller ruffles instead. Ruffled shoulders, pants or sleeves are an easy way of incorporating this trend into your wardrobe.

Embroidered sneakers

It started with white Stan Smiths and then moved on to black and finally pastels last year. Since normcore is still a major fashion trend this season, it’s only logical that sneakers are sticking around to compliment sporty silhouettes. Also, honestly, our feet are really thankfully so this trend might just stick around a little bit longer for amalgamating style and comfort. But each trend must receive an update in order to make it to the season so for summer 2017, sneakers are being embroidered. Yep, that’s right, Stan Smith leads the revolution by introducing a new range of their top selling blanc footwear with floral embroidery going down its sides. While it may not be possible for you to get your hands on Stan Smiths, you can still rock the trend with a sneaky style tip. Take your old white sneakers and get in touch with one of the several boutique footwear brands that hand paint shoes in Pakistan and ask them to revamp your shoes for the coming season. Not only do you save money by not buying more of the same but you can also get customized artwork on your shoes which means you’ll be sporting one of a kind. Win, win!
