Bridal makeup that doesn’t break the bank

There was a time when getting the bride dressed in all her wedding-day finery was a task for family and cousins. An aunt of dubious dexterity with makeup would be entrusted with the task of delicately painting garish blue and green shadow on the bride’s eyes to match the colours of her bridal dress. Lipstick and nail colour was always a bright red and the whiter the base, the better the base.

…because baby ko base pasand hai, only not too much!

Luckily enough, we weren’t even born back then! In this day and age, ‘where’ a bride chooses to have her makeup done from is as important and often as exorbitantly expensive as her dress itself. In Lahore, everyone wants to go to the Amina Rajas and Natasha’s Salons, but not everyone is comfortable paying upwards of Rs. 75000 for a few hours of makeup that will literally go down the drain, especially if you’re marrying in summer. So, if you want to look like a million dollars on your wedding without approximately paying the same amount, here’s our round up of three fabulous new makeup artists whose makeup makes you look beautiful without breaking the bank.

Fatima Nasir

One of our absolute favourite editorial makeup artists, Nasir is a maestro when it comes to creating flawless avant garde looks that belong in the pages of Vogue magazine but her skill isn’t just limited to inaccessible looks that can never be worn in real life. Nasir is known for her airbrushed treatment of skin that makes even bridal makeup look like there’s barely anything on the skin. Nasir tops our list not just because of skill but also because she’s the priciest of the lot. Her signature makeup look will set you back by about 50 grand and if you want the truly luxe airbrushed look, Nasir joins the ranks of uber expensive artists, charging a whooping 1 lac rupees for the premium service.

Zara Gul

New kid on the block, Gul established her stand-alone studio last year after dabbling in makeup on an amateur level. A Lahore School of Economics graduate, Gul’s minimalistic personal style is reflected in her approach towards makeup. She doesn’t believe in caking a bride with foundation or harsh contours, instead working with a person’s natural features to enhance them. She prefers to give her clients a fresh faced look with gilded eyes but admits that she will break away from her signature style if a client wants a stronger look. Priced at Rs. 30,000 Gul is the girl for a discerning bride who doesn’t want to look too made-up.

Numra Waqas

Gorgeous and svelte, Waqas’s signature look is definitely very glamorous. Having been practising makeup professionally since three years, Waqas is slowly building a reputation for herself as a reliable bridal makeup artist and has entire families often booking her for bridals and accompanying party makeup.  Waqas operates out of Lahore and charges Rs. 35,000 for signature bridal look. If you’re a fan of a seriously glam look without being made to look like a drag queen, Waqas is the way to go.
