India has become a land of rapists: Mallika Sherawat

Reacting to increasing incidents of sexual violence in India, Bollywood actor Mallika Sherawat says the country  has become a land of rapists.

Talking to media at a screening of film, ‘Daas Dev’ in Mumbai, the 41 year old actor  stated that the country had transitioned from the land of Mahatma Gandhi, to the land of gang rapists.

After the Indian President Ram Nath Kovind, promulgated an ordinance that rules death penalty for  rapists of girls aged below 12, Sherawat had said: “I think what’s happening with women and children of this country is absolutely shameful. 

If it’s not in the media, then nobody would know about these cases. I think because of pressure from the media, these new laws have been enforced. So we are really thankful to the media for this.”

She further added that the country has not been doing well in providing security to the women and children of the nation, as she comes across news about such distressing crimes on a daily basis.
