A lion in a Chinese zoo forced to chew off its own tail after it got stuck in an artificial hole of water that turned to ice due to extreme weather conditions.
Roving about in Shanxi Province’s Taiyuan zoo with part of its tail missing, the lion had gained notice from a number of alarmed tourists, visiting during the Lunar New Year holidays.
Upon request, a spokesperson of the zoo had explained that the lion fell asleep with his tail inside an artificial drinking hole which froze during the sub-zero temperature.
The lion was reported to have suffered tissue damage along with immense bleeding.
The visitors of the zoo have pointed fingers of accusation towards the zoo administration for the abuse and the malnourishment that the lion appeared to have gone through.
As of yet, the management of the zoo has remained silent towards the allegations.
