COLOMBO: On the occasion of 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Sri Lanka and China, fifty couples from China tied the knot in the Sri Lankan capital on Sunday in a mass wedding ceremony, conducted in the island’s Buddhist traditions, as the island aims to woo more tourists.
While many Sri Lankan officials and diplomats attended the ceremony, many Chinese nationals also attended the occasion.
The event was lit by the performances of traditional Sri Lankan drummers and dancers, while welcoming the guests.
In the event, the couples exchanged rings, while many school girls chanted hymns. The whole ceremony was conducted according to the Buddhist tradition.
China has invested heavily in infrastructure projects in Sri Lanka and a large number of Chinese tourists visit the South Asian island every year.
