Netflix renews 'Lock Upp' for season two after stunning success
The Netflix exec also explains what made 'Lock Upp' so appealing
After the success of the first season, Netflix has renewed the reality series Lock Upp: Sach Ya Sazaa for the second season.
In season one, contestants were placed in a jail-like environment and competed against each other in tasks.
Also, in the reality show, the celebrities have to open up a key secret about their personal lives.
The concept has become a hit with the audience as Netflix data revealed the show reached the top spot within two days of release.
For seven straight weeks, The Lock Upp remained at the No. 1 spot of Netflix TV series and raked in 50 million hours of viewership in a month.
That strong demand led the streamer to expand the series from five to six episodes per week.
TNetflix said the show's appeal had more to do with personal drama than the challenges the celebrities faced to survive in the game.
Monika Shergill, VP of Content at Netflix India, described the show's audience as "appointment viewing".
“Lock Upp: Sach Yaa Sazaa became appointment viewing overnight,” she said.
“Viewers invested, debated, and kept coming back. It captured the zeitgeist—not just as entertainment, but also as a space where celebrities talked about topics they rarely do, owned their choices, and confronted past trauma," the exec added.
Currently, it is unclear who will participate or when season two will air. But the hosts, Ritesh Deshmukh and Farah Khan, will return.
