'Game plan': Prince William launches major new initiative amid latest blow to Harry

Prince William has shared his first statement on social media after Prince Harry dealt a major blow as Uganda has withdrawn from the Invictus Games.

Uganda has withdrawn from the Invictus Games, just weeks after becoming the first East African country to join the community founded by Harry.

General Muhoozi Kainerugaba took to X, formerly Twitter handle and announced the country’s  decision to pull out.

He tweeted, “In order not to be construed as being opposed to His Majesty King Charles III of the United Kingdom, whom we deeply revere, Uganda hereby withdraws from the invictus games. We shall not participate in anything that does not have His Majesty's approval.”

Following major blow to Harry, Prince William was joined by a host of famous British sporting figures on Thursday to launch a new initiative to help the sports sector do more to help prevent suicide.

Sharing a video on social media, the Kensington Palace, on behalf of Prince William, said “One conversation can change everything.

“The world of sport is coming together behind one shared goal: suicide prevention.”

The Prince of Wales has teamed up with British sports stars, launching ‘On Your Side’ to make suicide prevention part of athletes’ “game plan”.

The future king further said, “Thanks to Harry Kane, George Russell, Kofi Josephs, Ruqsana Begum, Carl Frampton MBE, George Baker and Rochelle Clark MBE.”

"On Your Side", which has been produced by the Royal Foundation, William and his wife Kate's charitable organisation, aims to help people in sporting environments spot warning signs and provide support to individuals before they reach a crisis point.
