Reason Gloria Steinem never felt need to have children
Gloria Steinem decided to never have children or get married
Gloria Steinem once upon the reason of not having kids.
The famous female rights activist, who passed away this week, dedicated her life in fighting for women.
Steinem, who renounced marriage and children throughout her life once admitted that she does not feel unfulfilled.
“People assume I must be unhappy or unfulfilled,” Steinem said while appearing on Elizabeth Day’s podcast How to Fail. “Not everyone, but some people I think assume that... in a way that they wouldn’t assume about a man.”
“Everybody does not have to live in the same way,” said Steinem. “As somebody said, ‘Everybody with a womb doesn’t have to have a child any more than everybody with vocal cords has to be an opera singer.’ ”
“Raising children or being raised to raise children is the way men become whole people, just as we become whole by being active in the world outside the home,” Steinem said. “All those qualities that are wrongly called feminine — attention to detail, empathy, patience — they’re just what you need to raise kids.”
