Fans of New Girl, a hit sitcom, recently got the wrong idea after actor Max Greenfield's comments about a reunion script.

During an appearance on The Today Show, he said a revival of the Fox show is in the works.

In a confident tone, the actor, who played playboy Schmidt on the series, said, “I’m not gonna play the game. As far as I know, it’s happening.”

But he did not stop there; he went further.

Referring to Liz Meriwether, New Girl creator, Greenfield said, “I’ve seen scripts. She’s written them. They’re amazing. She’s a very talented writer.”

The actor's remarks predictably generated interest in the show's fandom, which has long called for a revival of the comedy series.

However, creator Liz Meriwether told Variety that no scripts exist.

“I don’t even have the scripts written for the things that I need to have scripts written for,” she said.

Given the interest generated about New Girl, Meriwether, however, is liking it.

“I’ve honestly been enjoying this thing, whatever this is, that’s like this back and forth between the cast and me, and I think this is the show and I feel like maybe in the world of the internet…maybe the show is just this, these little videos, maybe that’s the reunion. I don’t know.”

She has, however, previously addressed Greefield's claim with a tongue-in-cheek.

Taking to Instagram, she said, “Max told everybody that there’s amazing scripts of a ‘New Girl’ reunion that I’ve written. Um — and just an update on that — the scripts were pretty good until everybody just started giving me notes on every little thing."

New Girl, meanwhile, ran for seven seasons and ended in 2018.
