Prince Harry reaches out to UK authorities for help
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle take final step towards the family’s security
After Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s return to the UK this week, the couple’s lawyers have urged Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood to personally intervene in the decision over whether the Duke of Sussex are entitled to taxpayer-funded police protection.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are currently relying on their unarmed private bodyguards and a police liaison telephone number.
“It is unknown what the latest Risk Management Board (RMB), which assesses the threat level against Prince Harry and his family, found at the end of last month,” according to GB News.
Writing for the publication, Cameron Walker questioned why Harry’s lawyers have written to the Home Secretary, when she does not have the power to order the metropolitan police to provide more protection for him.
In May 2026, Harry said he was "devastated" to lose his appeal over his security in Britain after stepping down from royal duties.
He told the BBC he would "struggle to forgive" the decision and could not safely bring his family to Britain.
Harry, King Charles' younger son who moved to the United States with his wife Meghan, had sought to overturn a decision by the Home Office, the ministry responsible for policing.
