After Epstein scandal and surgery, husband shows full support to Crown Princess on wedding anniversary
Norway's Crown Princess Mette-Marit and husband Crown Prince Haakon are celebrating 25th wedding anniversary
Norway's royal couple Crown Prince Haakon and his wife Crown Princess Mette-Marit are celebrating their 25th wedding anniversary.
On Tuesday, the official Instagram account of the royal family shared a photo of the couple with the caption, "Today it is 25 years since Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette-Marit said their "I do" in Oslo Cathedral, on August 25, 2001.25 years of love, family, and a life together."
Later, multiple throwback photos of the royal couple were also posted on Instagram.
The anniversary came two months after Crown Princess Mette-Marit underwent a successful lung transplant.
The wife of Crown Prince Haakon, heir to the Norwegian throne, was diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis in 2018, a chronic disease that causes scarring in the lungs and reduces oxygen uptake.
The surgery came at a strained time for the royal family as Mette-Marit's 29-year-old son from a previous relationship, Marius Borg Hoiby, was convicted of rape and domestic violence and sentenced to four years in prison.
Days later, he was released from detention to serve house arrest under electronic monitoring while awaiting his appeal.
Mette-Marit was 25, a single mother and a commoner when she met Haakon at a music festival in 1999, the start of an unlikely royal romance that initially sparked controversy but ultimately won over much of the Norwegian public.
