Infantino under growing pressure as five FIFA vice-presidents turn against him
Only three vice-presidents, Alejandro Domínguez, Patrick Motsepe and Lambert Maltock, continue to support Infantino
FIFA president Gianni Infantino has lost the support of a fifth vice-president, deepening a leadership crisis at world football's governing body.
Hungarian football federation president Sandor Csanyi criticised Infantino's “professional judgment, ethical standards and leadership” in a letter sent on Tuesday and first obtained by Agence France-Presse.
Csanyi said he had “lost the confidence I previously placed in you”, describing the “unexpected dismissal” of FIFA chief operating officer Kevin Lamour as the “final straw”.
Lamour was dismissed on Monday after publicly criticising Infantino's abandoned proposal to sell shares in the World Cup to private investors.
“My conviction that you are capable of continuing to lead Fifa successfully and effectively in accordance with the shared values that previously formed the basis of our cooperation has been undermined,” Csanyi wrote.
Csanyi is now the fifth of FIFA’s eight vice-presidents to call for Infantino to step down.
UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin, Concacaf president Victor Montagliani, Asian Football Confederation president Sheikh Salman bin Ebrahim al Khalifa and Football Association chair Debbie Hewitt have also withdrawn their support.
Only three vice-presidents, Alejandro Domínguez, Patrick Motsepe and Lambert Maltock, continue to support Infantino.
Csanyi also criticised “a number of controversial decisions” surrounding this year's World Cup and Infantino's plans involving external investors.
