Jinny Lu wins 2026 world’s ugliest dog contest: What to know

Jinny Lu, a rescued pug from the dog meat trade in South Korea has won first place in the World’s Ugliest Dog Contest with her unique appearance in Santa Rosa, California.

The win has underscored the dog’s journey from being rescued to gaining widespread popularity. This year marked Jinny Lu’s fourth appearance in the contest which organizers released a statement: “Champions rescue dogs, celebrate individually and remind us that truly beauty comes in all shapes, sizes and smiles.”

According to contest organizers, Jinny Lu is known for barking and contending with her mirror-image several times a day and for performative play before seeking cuddles. Notably, Jinny Lu acts as a representative for rescue dogs, visiting elementary schools and memory care facilities.

On social platform X, fans have been sharing intriguing comments with one user writing, “Poor Jinny Lu just proved the phrase “beauty is in the eye of the bone‑holder.” Congrats on the trophy, sweet rescue.”

Second added, “Absolute peak aesthetics. This is the kind of chaotic energy the timeline needs. Bullish on Jinny Lu.”

CEO of the Sonoma-Marin Agricultural Association, Mandy Clendenen said: “The World’s Ugliest Dog Contest has never really been about finding the world’s ugliest dog, this event has celebrated the uniqueness of every dog while sharing an important message of compassion, rescue and acceptance.”

The event also featured rivals including a Neapolitan Mastiff and a Chinese Crested celebrating resilient rescue to find loving homes. Jinny Lu’s owner received a $5,000 prize for her victory; as the dog is known for barking and arguing with her reflection and performing dramatically with her toys.
