‘The Shards’ star Homer Gere shares he called THIS person after landing the role
Homer Gere opens up about his father, Richard Gere, being a source of professional support
Homer Gere shared who was the first person he told about getting his first-ever role.
The upcoming thriller series The Shards, created by Ryan Murphy and inspired by Bret Easton Ellis's acclaimed 2023 novel The Shards, stars Homer Gere as Robert Mallory, and it represents his first-ever starring role.
In an interview with People magazine, reflecting on the moment he landed his first starring role, Homer confessed that the person he first told about it was not his father. “I called my mom.”
“She was like, ‘Oh, honey, I’m so proud of you,’” he added.
Furthermore, Homer explained what drew him towards his character Robert and described it as “really fun.”
“There’s a quality about Robert that was really appealing to me,” he shared.
Adding, “There’s a sense of irony and almost satire, a little bit, with Robert. Like he’s self-aware. That really drew it to me. There’s a joke, and he’s aware of it. And he really wants Bret to be aware of it too.”
Although Homer's dad, Richard Gere, was not the first person whom he told about getting the role, still his father was instrumental in guiding him. “It's not like, ‘What should I do in this scene?’ It’s more like, how to carry yourself on set, how to make an acting career work in a way that’s sustainable,” Homer said.
“And for that, he’s been the most invaluable resource. I mean, truly better than I could possibly hope for, from anyone,” he added.
“I had the Chicago songs that he sang on my iPod because I had a little separation anxiety on the school bus.”
“I would listen to his songs on the school bus to soothe my separation anxiety,” Homer Gere further revealed.
It is pertinent to mention that, the psychological thriller TV series The Shards will premiere on FX on August 5, 2026.
