Prince Edward and Duchess Sophie in Glasgow as Kate and William arrive with children

Prince Edward and his wife Duchess Sophie were among the royal family members who attended the 2026 Commonwealth Games on day nine.

The Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh were presented with a miniature "Glasgow cone" during a visit to Team England House at The Social Hub.

According to the local media, Prince Edward and Sophie visited the venue as part of their official schedule of engagements in the host city.

The presentation of the cone alludes to a well-known local tradition involving the equestrian statue of the Duke of Wellington in Glasgow's Royal Exchange Square, which is routinely topped with an orange traffic cone by members of the public.

Meanwhile, Prince William and Kate Middleton also arrived in Scotland to attend Commonwealth Games along with their three children—Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Princes Louis.

Glashow, a Scottish city, was confirmed as ‌the host in October 2024 after the Australian state of Victoria withdrew due to cost concerns.

The city raced against time to deliver a slimmer Commonwealth Games with only 10 sports and a budget 60% smaller than the 2022 edition.
