Facebook and Instagram down again: Thousands users report issues
3,600 users reported crashes to Downdetector as Meta platforms failed again Wednesday morning
Meta's most imprtant platforms, Facebook and Instagram are down again for the second time in 72 hours Wednesday morning, leaving thousands of users unable to log in, access feeds, or use the apps.
According to Downdetector, a real-time outage tracking website, about 3,600 users from both social media platforms have experienced issues while accessing the their accounts, with the problem reaching its peak at 7:54am ET. This is an escalating trend of outages for the major social media sites of Meta.
Facebook and Instagram outage
On Facebook, users reported a roughly equal split between app failures (37% of reports), website access issues (32%), and login problems (23%).
Instagram's outage centred on the mobile app, with 62% of reports citing app-specific failures, followed by server connection issues (15%) and feed loading failures (13%).
This is the second outage in three days. Meta’s services had experienced an outage on Sunday as well, leaving users with frustration. Two outages in 72 hours indicate some kind of pattern and not just a one-time accident.
The repetition of the outages calls into question the resilience of infrastructure and monitoring systems of the tech giant.
However, Meta has not commented on either outage.
