Prince Harry makes National-level mistake that erases Scotland, Wales & Northern Ireland

A slip of the tongue Prince Harry has effectively erased the existence of erase Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland from his own lineage, and a comment about ‘telling’ this is comes hot off the presses because his words highlight his current dilemma, despite it likely having been a casual mistake.

What is pertinent to mention regarding this gaff is that the idea of ‘princes’ and ‘princess’ and royal courts referring to younger siblings of the monarch and heir—was something that arrived after 1714, under the Hanoverians (a German royal dynasty that ruled Great Britain and Ireland from 1714 to 1901).

The writer of the piece also explained afterwards that a distinct ‘Kingdom of England’ ceased to exist over 300 years ago with the Acts of Union in 1707 and in her eyes, “the blunder goes even deeper into historical ignorance than that.” Because “even before 1707, the title simply did not exist. Historically, the heir to the throne was always created Prince of Wales, while younger sons were given distinct peerages, such as the Duke of York.”

Next she dropped in to the following words to say, “we were treated to the usual self-deprecating banter about his hair loss and childhood school grievances. But amid the forced lad-culture laughter, Harry dropped an absolute blunder that exposed a staggering truth - he has completely forgotten who he actually is.”

For those unversed with the comment, it came when the Duke was asked about his occupation, and his response was “Full-time dad. British Army veteran. Prince of England. Duke.”

She believes, “in short, Harry has invented a completely fictional title with literally zero historical precedent,” she quipped as part of her bombshell and it saw her also add, “in one lazy, slip-of-the-tongue gaffe, he managed to completely erase Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland from his own lineage.”

Moreover, “the blunder shows just how much Harry has been influenced by his new life in California,” she added before explaining that most Americans often use the word ‘England’ when referring to the UK, and in the eyes of the writer herself, “By adopting this phrasing on the podcast, Harry showed he is speaking the language of his new home. But for a Prince of the United Kingdom by birthright, the distinction matters.”

Near the end the writer also admitted, “while it was likely just a casual mistake, it highlights his current dilemma. In trying to blend into his new American surroundings, Harry accidentally downplayed the very real, historic scope of the heritage he was born into.”
