Nancy Guthrie case update: Shocking new findings emerge about abduction ransom notes
The note from the possible abductors stated they did not mean for her to die and extended an apology to the family
According to investigators, a critical ransom note received shortly after the February 2026 disappearance of Nancy Guthrie, 84, claimed that she had died. The note was one of two planned for Nancy Guthrie's family and sent to news media in the days following her kidnapping.
Some media outlets had reported receiving ransom notes linked to the case in the days following Guthrie’s disappearance from her home outside Tucson but did not reveal that the messages claimed she was no longer alive.
A spokesperson for the sheriff’s department said: “The Pima County Sheriff’s Department continues to work closely with the FBI as investigators follow up on leads, review information, and pursue the facts surrounding this case.”
On Monday, some of the notes claimed that Nancy Guthrie was dead, and that those who abducted her did not intend to kill her, but officials stated she died shortly after her abduction.
As reported by the NBC, the second note prompted Savannah and her siblings to drop an Instagram message stating they had received the note and completely understood.
Guthrie said: “We received your message and we understand.”
We beg you now to return our mother to us so that we can celebrate with her. This is the only way we will have peace.” she added.
Notably, authorities and Guthrie’s family had previously released community alerts that Nancy Guthrie was in poor health and lacked her necessary emergency medications.
Authorities maintained that Nancy Guthrie was kidnapped or abducted or took serious action against her after discovering blood near the front porch outside Tucson.
