Who was behind ‘foiled’ UFC Freedom 250 White House terror plot? DHS reveals new details
UFC Freedom 250 event was held at the White House to mark America’s 250 years and Trump's 80 birthday
The FBI, earlier this week, along with other law enforcement partners successfully foiled a terror plot targeting the UFC Freedom 250 event held at the White House on Sunday, June 14.
As reported by the Fox News Digital, the suspected group was intended to carry out a “mass-casualty” attack on billionaires, government officials and other attendees at the UFC event. The nefarious plan involved using the explosive-laden drones to trigger the mass evacuation.
As the crowd would run amok towards the exit, the pre-positioned sniper team was ready to attack them. The alleged groups were found to possess firearms, thousands of rounds of ammunition and tactical gear.
The FBI disrupted the plan by uncovering discussions in encrypted chat groups, having the maps of the area surrounding the event. As a result, they arrested five suspects on Monday and investigators also identified a total of 23 people who are allegedly to be part of a broader conspiracy.
On Thursday, the Department of Homeland Security issued new details regarding who was the mastermind behind this thwarted attack.
Mastermind behind UFC attack
According to DHS, the terror plot targeting UFC Freedom 250 at the White House was allegedly led by an illegal immigrant.
As per officials, the FBI arrested Mexican national Abraham Hernosillo Alvarez on June 14 in Omaha who is responsible for planning, organizing and directing the attack. DHS stated that Alvarez is a Mexican national who entered the US on a B2 visitor visa and overstayed his departure date in December 2001.
According to the administration, Alvarez was the ringleader of the foiled attack and will held accountable in the US before being deported.
According to Acting Assistant Secretary Lauren Bis, “This illegal alien from Mexico should never have been allowed in our country. He was the ringleader of a failed terror attack targeting UFC Freedom 250 at the White House.”
Alvarez and his co-conspirators face federal charges of conspiracy to commit murder and conspiracy to commit violence on White House grounds.
As per reports, he was granted Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) in 2014. Even after the expiration of B2 visa in 2001, he did not leave the country.
