President Trump defends Iran deal, calls critics ‘jealous’ and ‘stupid’
President Trump signed US-Iran MoU during G7 Summit in France
US President Donald Trump has responded to backlash surrounding the recently signed Iran memorandum of understanding (MoU) and defended his Iran policy.
The criticism stems from Republicans, including Senator Bill Cassidy who called it “the worst foreign policy blunder in decades.”
“Reagan is rolling over in his grave. Iran’s nuclear ambitions were not curbed, and they have learned that threatening the Strait of Hormuz works and will undoubtedly leverage it in the future,” Cassidy wrote on X.
In response to the opposition, President Trump hit back at critics and wrote on Truth Social Post, “These fools, who think I haven’t been tough enough on Iran, when the Stock Market Just Hit A RECORD HIGH, and Oil prices are ‘tumbling’ down, are either jealous, bad people, or stupid. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!!!”
The 14-point US-Iran agreement allows both parties to end the conflict on all fronts, including Lebanon along with refraining from using the force in the future.
The MoU also includes the establishment of a $300 billion worth Iran reconstruction fund, aiming at providing financial incentives for reconstruction.
As per framework, Iran assures the US that it will not develop and procure nuclear weapons. Talking about enrichment, both sides agree to resolve the disposition of enriched material and discuss the enrichment requirements as part of a final deal.
Senator Ted Cruz cautioned, “I do want to urge the president not to give up the victory; we have destroyed their military, and we should not fund the rebuild.”
Former US Vice President Mike Pence said the agreement “does smack of the kind of appeasement that our administration rejected in the Obama-Iran nuclear deal”.
“Failing that, we should let our Armed Forces finish the job on our terms,” Pence wrote on X.
