Tom Holland reveals stance on use of AI in filmmaking
Tom Holland shares his thoughts on the use of AI in the entertainment industry
Tom Holland has expressed his thoughts on the use of AI in the entertainment industry.
During an appearance on Spanish talk show El Hormiguero on Wednesday, the Spider-Man actor said that artists are safe because AI "doesn’t have a soul."
“Creativity is safe from AI because creativity has to do with the human experience,” said Tom. “It’s about emotions, it’s about understanding one another.”
The 30-year-old actor further said, “AI can sift through data, but it can’t understand people’s emotions. It doesn’t understand the difference between being happy and being sad."
Tom insisted that it's impossible to copy authentic art forms.
“The way artists paint, it’s not about what they’re copying, it’s about expressing themselves. So I feel protected," he added.
For those unversed, Tom is currently promoting his two new films. He will first appear as Telemax in The Odyssey.
The film, directed by Christopher Nolan, will hit theaters on July 24.
Tom will next be seen opposite Zendaya in Spider-Man: Far From Home.
The new Marvel film will be released in cinemas on July 31.
Tom is among numerous Hollywood stars and filmmakers voicing concerns around AI and job security in Hollywood.
On Monday night, Frankenstein director Guillermo del Toro warned about the rapid advancement of this technology, stating, “We are on the verge of image illiteracy. We are on the verge of cinema illiteracy.”
On the other side, Actresses Reese Witherspoon and Sandra Bullock have spoken out in favor of AI, encouraging others to implement it in everyday life.
