Trump confirms US-Iran ‘great’ peace deal, Strait of Hormuz to reopen Friday

After months-long deadly conflict in the Middle East, the United States and Iran have finally reached a historic peace deal, confirmed by President Donald Trump.

In his Truth Social post, President Trump posted on Sunday, “The Deal with the Islamic Republic of Iran is now complete. Congratulations to all!”

According to Trump, the “great peace deal” between Tehran and Washington will pave the way towards reopening the Strait of Hormuz on Friday. “I hereby fully authorize the toll free opening of Hormuz, simultaneously herewith, authorize the immediate removal of the US naval blockade.”

The highly-anticipating deal is expected to be officially signed on Friday in Switzerland. However, the key postulates of the deal are still unknown and might be shared after signing the deal as per officials. The fate of Tehran's nuclear program was excluded from the current agreement and has been deferred to subsequent negotiations.

According to Iran’s National Security Council, the US naval blockade will be lifted immediately and the war will end on all fronts, including Lebanon. Similarly, the Pakistan Prime Minister, Shahbaz Sharif also posted on X that the deal also called for the permanent and immediate termination of military operations on all fronts including Lebanon.

The announcement of reaching the deal has sent a wave of relief in global energy markets as the pact has driven an immediate drop in global oil prices, significant work remains. Hormuz passageway is a critical shipping passageway as around 40 percent of global oil passes through it

The upcoming deal received praise from world leaders. European Council President Antonio Costa has welcomed the Iran-US deal announcement.

“I look forward to an end to this costly war and to the full restoration of freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz,” Costa, the European Council President, wrote on X.

“Weapons must now fall silent, and outstanding differences must be resolved by peaceful means, in accordance with international law.”

EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen welcomed the deal, citing, “The priority now is its swift and full implementation by all parties.”
