Bruce Springsteen has issued an apology to Bono for rejecting his request to add his song Girls in Their Summer Clothes in a Gap commercial.

At the Tribeca Film Festival on Saturday, June 13, Bono presented the Harry Belafonte Voices for Social Justice Award to the 76-year-old American singer-songwriter and musician, recalling how his request to include his 2007 song in a Gap commercial was rejected, which was basically to support RED.

For those unaware, RED was Bono and Bobby Shriver's campaign to fight AIDS.

Calling to mind, the 66-year-old shared, “I said, ‘Bruce, this song ‘Girls in Their Summer Clothes,’ this is like one of the great pop songs ever.’ He goes, ‘It's not bad, is it?' I said, ‘Would you think about using it for a commercial like for RED through Gap?' You said, ‘No.’”

Reflecting on his decision, Springsteen confessed that he made a “big mistake” by refusing Bono’s request and apologized to him.

“That was a big mistake ... I should have said yes. That was just a song that I loved, and damn it, I still think back. I said, ‘Bono asked me to put this thing in a commercial on television, I should have f***** done it, then people would hear it like a hit.' So I have to apologize, I should have done that,” the Secret Garden crooner admitted.
