Instagram is rolling out one of its most requested features: the ability to manually rearrange posts on your profile grid. The update gives users direct control over how their feed looks to visitors: no deletions, no workarounds, just drag and drop.

To get to it, just tap any photo in your profile grid and then hit “Reorder grid” from the choices that pop up. That should bring up a new window, where posts can be moved around pretty freely, and then set into any order you want. When you’re happy with it, tap the little back chevron in the top-left corner so the changes apply to your live profile.

The ability to reorder posts comes after a similar feature Instagram launched last year. Users could move around photos and videos on the carousel after publishing it; the feature was quite popular, and Instagram decided to extend its functionality to the profile grid.

Threads by Instagram officially announced the feature "as available beginning this week", suggesting a phased introduction process rather than an immediate worldwide launch. Users might not be able to access the feature right away, but judging from the carousel reordering introduction, full deployment will come swiftly.

For people who use their profile grids as part of their branding strategy, the update is important. It used to be that the only way you could control grid order was by deleting posts and republishing them; in doing so, you lost views, likes, and reach.
