Hugh Laurie defends 'House' against critic's savage attack

Hugh Laurie was a mainstay of hit drama House over a decade ago; the actor, it seems, is still touchy about criticism on the show.

The latest example of this was Janet Murray.

A journalist who mocked the show on social media platform X, alleging every episode followed the same template.

She explained, "Patient has mysterious illness; Hugh Laurie (House) gets diagnosis wrong. Patient nearly dies. Hugh Laurie gets the diagnosis wrong again."

"Gets threatened with being fired. Patient nearly dies again. Hugh Laurie has a last-minute leftfield idea. Gets diagnosis right. Doesn’t get fired."

“Eight seasons of this?” she shared.

Laurie, who played Dr. Gregory House, fired back.

In a reply to Murray, he wrote, "Thanks for your critique, Janet. We actually tried a couple of episodes where House (Hugh Laurie) (please put the brackets in the right place) gets it right first time, but they were only 6 minutes long."

Laurie did not stop there; he ramped up his criticism of Murray's tweet.

"NBC wasn't happy. Then we tried somewhere the house never gets it right and the patient dies. The audience wasn’t happy.”

Then, the actor brought in legendary artists as examples, noting that their outstanding works often explore variations.

"One could apply your trenchant analysis to other art forms: JS Bach wrote 30 Goldberg variations on the same chord structure; Frida Kahlo painted 50 portraits of herself; Henry Moore, what??"

"The point is, or was, variations on a theme; if all you see is hospital, medical, blah blah, then it wasn’t meant for you.”

He capped off by delivering a quip, “Nonetheless, I look forward to your first novel!”

The quirky exchange went viral. Fans of House flooded the comment section with praise for the show and Laurie.
