Rick Springfield reveals why he chose U.S. citizenship

Rick Springfield has finally explained why he decided to become an official American.

In a new interview with People magazine, the Australian rocker revealed that he became a U.S. citizen in 2006 for technical reasons, such as taxes, marriage, and a power of attorney.

"Oh, I wanted to be on jury duty," Rick joked. "I heard it was so much fun and such a kick that I just, I said, "I gotta do this!'"

Kidding aside, the 74-year-old musician said that "Honestly, it was for reasons like if I die first, my wife will be able to make financial or decisions."

"My friends are here, my family's here. I do have some cousins back in Australia, but, you know, this is where my life is, and I love this place," she continued.

"I love the country. I mean, honestly I wouldn't have done if I didn't love America," added the Jessie's Girl singer.

It is worth mentioning that Rick is all set to join his friend Sammy Hagar on the "Best of All Worlds" summer tour for eight shows in June.

"I love being on the road and Sammy's a lot of fun on the road and great to hang with, and we've both got great bands and it's just gonna be a rocking and a rolling," said Rick.
