Google's June 2026 Android feature update extends several Personal Safety app capabilities to younger age groups for the first time. The two new features that were exclusive to adult users and are now available to younger users include the emergency information on the lock screen and the automatic crash detection, which were previously reserved for older users and catered specifically to these circumstances.

This upgrade was well-planned because children are becoming independent at an early age and carrying mobile phones with them all the time.

Children will now have access to information regarding any existing health issues along with emergency contacts right from the lock screen without needing to unlock the phone first.

The benefit of crash detection is in having the ability of the device to recognise a serious accident and reach out to selected emergency contacts on behalf of the child if it is unable to do so.

Notably, the crash detection feature has already proven useful on other smartphones, but offering it to children fills an important need among many families who rely on giving phones to kids for security reasons.

A timer-enabled safety check feature will now be available for teens. Once the user sets a countdown and then leaves, the app automatically sends a notification with their location once the countdown ends.
