It is huge news for the sport, and the LTA broke the announcement with a photo of Williams, a 23-time Grand Slam champion, accompanied by a graphic of a red crown.

The Californian, who has received a wildcard entry, is likely to partner up with Canadian teenager Victoria Mboko as they eye a return to Wimbledon.

The 23-time Grand Slam singles champion has accepted a wild card invitation to play at the upcoming Queen’s Club grass-court tournament in London, the WTA Tour announced Monday.

WTA Tournament Director Laura Robson said, “Serena Williams is one of the greatest athletes the world has ever seen."

She said, "Queen's Club feels like the perfect place to begin this next chapter" adding “Grass has given me some of the most meaningful moments of my career, and I’m excited to be back competing on one of the sport’s most iconic stages.”

Fans love Serena, as the 44 years old tennis star has won 73 singles titles and spent 319 weeks as the WTA World No. 1.

The Queen’s Club tournament starts next Monday, and the WTA said Williams will play “with a partner to be announced in due course.”
