Apple's first foldable iPhone likely to cost over $2,000: Check spec details here

Apple's long-rumoured foldable iPhone is expected to cross the $2,000 price threshold, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, making it nearly $1,000 more expensive than the current iPhone 17 Pro.

With an anticipated September 2026 announcement alongside the iPhone 18 Pro lineup, here is everything that has leaked so far about what could be Apple's most significant hardware redesign in years.

Apple iPhone Fold specifications (expected)

Physical prototypes leaked online suggest that Apple is designing a foldable phone in the style of books instead of a clamshell-style flip device.

Reportedly, in the closed state, it measures 5.5 inches, while its opened-up size is 7.8 inches with a 4:3 iPad aspect ratio.

With titanium and aluminium material on its shell, Samsung is reportedly supplying the OLED screens for the inner and outer panels.

Unfolded at 4.5mm, this smartphone will be too thin for Apple to implement the TrueDepth camera array, rendering Face ID useless and bringing back Touch ID. Available colours will be silver and white and indigo, much like the iPhone 17 Pro's Deep Blue.

Unlike other rumours and leaks, there isn't much going on outside the iPhone 18 Pro. In particular, no visible changes in display dimensions are expected. However, Apple enthusiasts will see a new A20 processor and improved LTPO+ technology.

The Camera Control button will become insensitive to touching with a new haptic motor installed. As for the back panel colour, it may come in light blue, dark cherry, dark grey, or silver.

In an unusual move, a Weibo leaker cited by MacRumors claims Apple is planning to downgrade the standard iPhone 18's components, including its chip and memory, to bring it closer in spec to the budget iPhone 18e.

Apple iPhone Fold release dates and pricing (expected)

According to reports, Apple’s planned 2026 release will come in two rounds. It is expected that the iPhone Fold, 18 Pro, and Pro Max models will launch in September 2026, although the foldable model might even be delayed until December because of hinge design issues.

The iPhone 18, 18e, and another model of the Air will likely come out in March. The pricing for the non-foldable range is estimated from $599 for the iPhone 18e to $1,199 for the Pro Max. The price of the Fold is considerably higher, at over $2,000.
