Watch Michael Fassbender make bizarre alien joke as Cannes audience erupts
Michael Fassbender stars in a new movie dealing with an alien invasion
Michael Fassbender believes humans and aliens want the same things: to protect their young ones.
His remarks, though in a light manner, came during a session in Cannes where his new movie Hope screened.
The film is about an alien invasion in a sleepy town of South Korea as the X-Men star jokes, "Aliens are living amongst us."
Upon watching the movie, the audience at Cannes were stunned, leading them to give a six-minute ovation.
Overwhelmed by the response, Fassbender shares, "Hopefully, we could learn something from them; hopefully, they wouldn’t be aggressive."
He continues, "I think in our case, what’s interesting about the aliens [in the movie #Hope] and what would be sort of comparable to humans is they want the same things, which is just protecting their young, and it’s sort of all down to that."
Directed by Na Hong-jin, Hope's logline read, "An isolated coastal village near the Korean DMZ."
"When a suspected tiger sighting spirals into an extraterrestrial threat and wildfires cut off all communication, locals and a determined police chief must fight for survival against a mysterious, violent cosmic force."
The film is set to hit the cinemas in South Korea in the summer.
