Bob Dylan names singer who could match Elvis Presley
Bob Dylan once honoured a singer for ability to make any song sound personal and original
Willie Nelson was the only singer Bob Dylan compared to Elvis Presley.
Dylan made the comparison in one of his interviews where he said Nelson was the only singer he could remember who could take a song by Elvis Presley and truly make it his own.
“He takes whatever he’s singing and makes it his, and there’s not many people who can do that. With something like an Elvis tune,” Far Out Magazine quoted Dylan.
He added, “When Elvis does a tune, it’s pretty much done, but Willie’s the only one in my recollection that has taken something of Elvis’s and made it his. Put his own trip on it.”
Dylan admired Nelson’s simple and honest singing style, saying his performances always felt natural and personal.
Nelson built his career not only as a songwriter but also as an artist known for reworking classic songs in his own style.
Meanwhile, Dylan’s remarks have resurfaced at a time when his own life and career are once again in the spotlight following the release of the biopic A Complete Unknown, starring Timothée Chalamet as the music legend.
