According to a report by the Sun, the police officers protecting the royal family at Windsor Castle are facing an investigation over allegations they slept while on duty.

The Met Police spokesperson said: “The Met’s Directorate of Professional Standards has launched an urgent investigation following concerns raised regarding the conduct of a number of officers on protective duties at Windsor Castle.”

The spokesperson further said, “The allegations include officers leaving posts unattended and sleeping while on duty.”

“The alleged behaviour falls below the high standards expected of officers, particularly in frontline protective roles,” the police representative added.

However, Buckingham Palace declined to comment, but confirmed that it had been informed of the investigation.

The outlet had reported up to 30 from the Met’s Royalty and Specialist Protection squad are under investigation for misconduct.

As per the reports, the monarch has carried out at least 13 engagements at the castle this year and on Easter Sunday the King led William, Kate and their children to a service at St George’s Chapel, with hundreds of people allowed inside the castle grounds.

Prince William, now based a few miles away at Forest Lodge, has also been to the castle at least five times for meetings and investitures.

Earlier, this week, Prince William also held an award distribution ceremony at Windsor.

Kensington Palace on Friday shared photos of William saying, “Congratulations to everyone receiving awards in Windsor earlier this week, such a special and well-deserved recognition of your contribution and service.”
