Insomniac Games confirmed Marvel's Wolverine will release September 15, 2026 on PlayStation 5, ending months of silence about the highly anticipated exclusive. Yet industry leaks suggest the game may never reach other platforms.

In a brief May 7 tweet, Insomniac reiterated the September 15 date first announced in February, offering only a PlayStation Store wishlist link. While reassuring fans that no delays have occurred.

What to expect from Marvel's Wolverine?

According to Bloomberg reporter Jason Schreier, who works as an industry insider, Sony has decided to stop bringing its single-player exclusive games to PC platforms. Schreier based his statement on upcoming video games, including Marvel's Wolverine, which he believes will never be available on PC.

Schreier predicted that the game would not become available on PC because players require PlayStation to access the game for an unknown length of time. Schreier responded to the question about Ghost of Tsushima's PC release by saying the game will stay exclusive to PlayStation.

This contradicts five years of Sony precedent. Horizon Zero Dawn debuted on PC in 2020, followed by God of War, Spider-Man, The Last of Us, and Uncharted. PlayStation ports became standard industry practice until now.

The revenue from PC porting projects serves as the main reason Sony considers these projects to be commercial failures according to Schreier. "I don't think it was that successful in the first place," he said. The technical problems which occurred during the launch of multiple PlayStation PC ports resulted in executives developing negative attitudes towards future business expansion.

Schreier explained that live-service multiplayer games will keep coming to PC while PlayStation games like 4:Loop and Horizon Hunters Gathering have already confirmed their upcoming cross-platform releases.

The upcoming Marvel's Wolverine movie will release on September 15, which provides only six weeks until Grand Theft Auto 6 launches in November. Sony seeks to use the short time period between Wolverine's launch and Rockstar's blockbuster's release to maximise PS5 sales.

Wolverine exists as one of the last major PS5 exclusive titles, which will launch five years after its initial announcement in 2021 before the PlayStation 6 launch.
