Gayle King recently revealed why she is not indulging in extensive preparation for her Broadway debut.

For those unaware, the 71-year-old American television personality, author, and broadcast journalist for CBS News is set to show her acting skills in Celebrity Autobiography, the long-running comedy hit making its first-ever Broadway bow later this month at the Shubert Theatre in New York City.

On Thursday, May 7, King attended The Hollywood Reporter's Most Powerful People in New York Media event, where PEOPLE magazine asked her why she is not practising before making her huge stage debut.

Responding to the outlet’s query, she said, “No, no, no. I'm going to do exactly what they tell me to do. I follow instructions very nicely.”

The CBS Mornings co-host went on to admit that she is not nervous about her project; rather, she is “excited about it.”

In addition, she mentioned that Celebrity Biography came as unexpectedly as her trip on the all-female Blue Origin rocket in April of last year.

“They asked me and I said, 'Sure.’ Because, if there's one thing I can do, I can read. So, I feel okay about it! I feel okay about it,” Gayle King unveiled.

It is pertinent to mention that Celebrity Autobiography, created by Eugene Pack with the help of Dayle Reyfel, features celebrities who read out excerpts from famous memoirs and act them out dramatically, with a focus on the strange, silly, and funny parts that authors didn’t write with the intention of making people laugh.

Celebrity Autobiography will open on May 18 after a limited Broadway engagement on May 16. The show will run through August 16, marking the first Broadway show of the 2026-2027 season.
