Bournemouth suspends Alex Jimenez following viral social media posts
Alex Jimenez made 32 appearances for Bournemouth across all competitions
AFC Bournemouth has suspended defender Alex Jimenez from their squad ahead of Saturday’s game against Fulham as the club launches an investigation into viral social media posts.
The club issued a statement, “AFC Bournemouth are aware of posts circulating on social media involving right-back, Alex Jimenez.”
“The club understands the seriousness of the matter and it is currently being investigated. As a result, Alex will not be included in the squad for tomorrow's Premier League game against Fulham and the club will be making no further comment at this time.”
The controversy stems from the exchange of messages between Jimenez and a 15-year-old teenager. The screenshots were posted on social media on Friday. One text included a selfie of Jimenez along with a suggestive caption.
However, no evidence has emerged yet regarding Jimenez meeting this girl.
Following the decision, the 21-year-old Spaniard will not feature in the upcoming Premier League fixture against Fulham.
Jimenez joined Bournemouth on a permanent basis after leaving AC Milan during the January transfer window. He made 32 appearances for Bournemouth in all competitions. He also netted a spectacular goal during a nail-biting 3-2 victory against Liverpool.
