Ashley Graham has spoken out against the popularity of GLP-1 weight-loss drugs in Hollywood.

In her cover story for Marie Claire's annual Motherhood issue, published on Thursday, April 30, Graham, who has been an advocate of body positivity, called the trend of GLP-1 medications “a smack in the face,” especially when the world is influenced by fake body standards.

The 38-year-old American model went on to state that it is “really disheartening” to see the rise in weight-loss drugs, which is setting wrong standards of thinness in the fashion and entertainment worlds.

She said, “There was a pendulum that swung that was so body acceptance, positivity, everybody be who they want to be. And now it's going back this whole opposite way that feels like a smack in the face to the women who have felt like they've had a voice.”

The mother of three, who has a chubby body type, added, “It goes with the times — and GLP-1s are a time… I know that there are, and there's gonna still be, women who are considered plus-size forever.”

“This drug isn't going to wipe out a whole statistic of women,” Ashley Graham noted.

It is pertinent to mention that GLP-1 medications helped many Americans lose weight by suppressing appetite. According to the National Academy of Medicine, the medication mimics “a natural hormone that helps regulate blood sugar levels and appetite.”

Notably, people suffering from type 2 diabetes are prescribed to take these medications, as they manage blood sugar levels and slow down the metabolism that ultimately reduces appetite and increases feelings of fullness.
