UK police have arrested a long-awaited suspect who killed two minor girls in a brutal car crash in Wimbledon.

A British woman has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving ‌after two eight-year-old girls were killed outside a south London school in 2023, police and prosecutors said on Friday.

The 49-year-old woman has also been charged with serious driving offenses relating to the incident outside the Study Prep School in Wimbledon, less than a mile from the site of the tennis tournament.

Two schoolgirls, Nuria Sajjad and Selena Lau died in the incident as the school was celebrating the last day of the summer term.

London's Metropolitan Police said students and their families were celebrating the end of term in the school grounds when the collision happened.

Freemantle is accused of two counts of causing death by dangerous driving and seven counts of causing serious injury by dangerous driving following the incident at The Study Prep School in Wimbledon in July 2023.

The driver of a 4×4 that crashed into a southeast London primary school has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving after two eight-year-old girls were killed.

Freemantle’s lawyers have said she will plead not guilty to the charges when she appears at Westminster Magistrates Court.

The watchdog previously said it was investigating allegations that officers provided “false and misleading information” to the families after complaints about the standard of the investigation.

Claire Freemantle will appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court on June 16, charged over the deaths of Nuria Sajjad and Selena Lau, who were killed in the incident.
