UK: Suspect arrested after two stabbed near Golders Green, north London, Met police report
The Metropolitan Police said two people were stabbed in Golders Green, north London, while a suspected arson attack targeted a memorial wall on Limes Avenue on Monday
British police arrested a man after two people were stabbed in Golders Green, an area of north London with a large Jewish population, a Jewish community security organization said on Wednesday.
It comes after the Metropolitan Police MET reported that a suspected arson attack has been carried out at a memorial wall in Golders Green, north London, and the fire at the site in Limes Avenue took place at around 12:15 GMT on Monday.
The organization, Shomrim, also said on X that a man was seen running with a knife and attempting to stab Jewish members of the public before its officers detained him. Police then attended and deployed a taser, the group added.
Suspect detained by members of Shomrim before police officers arrested him, says volunteer group.
London's Metropolitan Police further stated the area is home to a large Jewish community.
"We recognize that this incident will heighten concerns in the Golders Green area, where residents have already faced a series of attacks," Detective Chief Superintendent Luke Williams said in a statement.
Over the last month, counter-terrorism officers have arrested more than two dozen people as part of investigations into attacks on Jewish-linked premises.
Although the investigation was being led by the counter-terrorism squad, it was still not treated as a terrorist incident.
London mayor Sadiq Khan also condemned the attack. He said the attack was “appalling” and that he was in close contact with the Metropolitan Police.
