Stephanie White says team must adjust to support Caitlin Clark after preseason return
Stephanie White said opponents are placing heavy defensive pressure on Clark
Stephanie White has outlined how the Indiana Fever plan to improve support for Caitlin Clark following her return to action.
Clark featured in a preseason win over the New York Liberty, scoring seven points in 17 minutes but struggling with shooting efficiency.
Speaking after the game, White said opponents are placing heavy defensive pressure on Clark.
“We just saw it on the film. Teams are going to guard her 94 feet. They’re going to try to take away her touches. They’re going to try to make everything difficult,” she said.
“We have to do a good job of finding ways that we can get her high-percentage looks. Where she’s not always having to take and make tough shots.”
She also emphasised the importance of team chemistry: “That’s getting more comfortable with one another. That’s getting her a little bit more comfortable in off-ball actions and getting the ball moving.”
Clark played limited games last season due to injuries, averaging 16.5 points per game. The Fever will next face the Dallas Wings in preseason action.
