Whitecaps relocation talks emerge as MLS reviews future for Vancouver club
The report said MLS has already held discussions with a group interested in bringing a team to Las Vegas
The future of the Vancouver Whitecaps is under review, with Major League Soccer discussing potential relocation.
According to a report by The Athletic, a league committee met earlier this month to consider options, with Las Vegas emerging as a leading candidate for relocation.
The report said MLS has already held discussions with a group interested in bringing a team to Nevada city.
The Whitecaps have been up for sale for more than a year, while their lease at BC Place is set to expire at the end of 2026.
In a statement to The Athletic, the club said: “Since December 2024, ownership has prioritized finding a buyer committed to keeping the team in Vancouver, and to date, no solution has been found.”
Efforts to secure a long term future in Vancouver are ongoing. The club and city signed a memorandum of understanding in December 2025 to negotiate a potential new stadium at Hastings Park.
Mayor Ken Sim said at the time: “This MOU demonstrates a firm commitment by both the City and the Whitecaps to advance work towards a new stadium here in Vancouver.”
No further updates have been provided on the negotiations.
