Jimmy Kimmel addresses Trump's call to oust him from TV
President Trump and his wife Melania recently criticized Jimmy Kimmel over his 'glow like an expectant widow' joke
Jimmy Kimmel finally broke the silence after President Trump demanded ABC fire him over his jokes about Melania Trump.
On Monday's episode of his late-night show, Jimmy Kimmel Live!, the TV host responded to recent criticism. He insisted that a joke made on his show, days prior to the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, was being misinterpreted as a call to violence.
He clarified it was "obviously a joke about their age difference and Melania’s expression together."
He further said, "It was a very light roast joke about the fact that he's almost 80 and she's younger than I am," he said of Trump's age. "It was not by any stretch a call to assassination and they know that I've been very vocal for many years, speaking out against gun violence in particular."
Jimmy then apologized to the president and first lady of America.
"I am sorry that you and the president and everyone in that room on Saturday went through that. I really am," he said, speaking directly to Melania.
"Just because no one got killed doesn't meant it wasn't traumatic and scary. And we should come together and be best. We really should," Jimmy continued.
"But if you want us to believe that a joke I made three days before this dinner had any effect on anything that happened, well maybe you should look into this psychic lady, too," added the TV personality.
During the April 23 episode, Jimmy joked that Melania looks like an “expectant widow.”
After the host's comment, Trump demanded ABC fire Jimmy over jokes about his wife.
