The Toronto Marlies have advanced to the North Division semi finals after a 4-2 win over the Rochester Americans.
The victory secured a 2-1 series win for Toronto, setting up a second round clash with the Laval Rocket, which begins on Wednesday.
Logan Shaw scored twice for the Marlies, while goaltender Dennis Hildeby made 29 saves to help guide the team through the opening round.
Rochester responded with goals from Konsta Helenius and Olivier Nadeau, but they were unable to level the score late in the game.
William Villeneuve sealed the result for Toronto with an empty net goal from the length of the rink in the final minutes.
The result marks a return to the second round for Toronto after early playoff exits in the past two seasons.
The Marlies will now look to build momentum as they prepare to face Laval in the next stage of the playoffs.
