Cole Hutson reflects on NHL debut and plans to get stronger ahead of full rookie season
Hutson described the physical challenge of the league after a collision with Charlie Coyle of the Columbus Blue Jackets
Cole Hutson has reflected on his first experience in the NHL, saying he plans to improve his strength and speed ahead of the next season.
Speaking about his early games, Hutson described the physical challenge of the league after a collision with Charlie Coyle of the Columbus Blue Jackets.
“I don't even think he saw me. I think he just shrugged me off, and it felt like a train hit me,” he said.
He added that the pace of the NHL is significantly higher than college hockey. “Players are so good, you can't anticipate what they're doing, because they'll outsmart you just like you're thinking of outsmarting them,” Hutson said.
“It happens so fast, just how quick the game goes by.”
Despite the adjustment, Hutson recorded 10 points in 14 games during his first stint.
“Just getting bigger, stronger, faster, kind of the usual things I try to do every summer as a smaller guy”, he said.
“I've learned a lot... it was an unbelievable experience for me,” and said the experience gives him a strong foundation for next season.
Hutson is expected to continue training in the off season as he aims to secure a regular place in the league.
