Princess Charlene, Prince Albert react to White House correspondents dinner shooting
Prince Albert says "I extend to you, as well as your spouse and the American people, the expression of our solidarity"
Prince Albert of Monaco and his wife Princess Charlene have sent a message of support to US President Donald Trump after White House Correspondents' Association dinner shooting.
According to officials, President Donald Trump and officials in his administration were the likely targets of a suspect who fired on a security agent guarding the White House Correspondents' Association dinner in Washington, U.S. Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche said on Sunday.
The man fired a shotgun at a Secret Service agent at a checkpoint in the Washington Hilton hotel before being tackled and arrested. Trump and first lady Melania Trump were rushed out of the dinner.
Reacting to the incident, Prince Albert of Monaco issued a statement with caption, “To Mr. Donald J. TRUMP, President of the United States of America.”
The statement further reads, “It is with emotion that I learnt of the events which took place last night in Washington, on the sidelines of the annual White House Correspondents’ Dinner.
“I wish to convey my relief at knowing that you, together with the First Lady and all those in attendance, are safe and unharmed following this act of exceptional gravity.”
He added, “On behalf of the Monegasque community, Princess Charlene and my Family, I extend to you, as well as your spouse and the American people, the expression of our solidarity.”
