Piers Morgan raises serious question after White House shooting incident ahead of King Charles visit
Piers Morgan said, "Appalling scenes from White House Correspondents dinner after shooter opened fire outside the main ballroom"
Former Good Morning Britain host Piers Morgan has reacted to the White House Correspondents dinner shooting incident a day before King Charles US state visit.
Taking to X, formerly Twitter handle, Piers Morgan said, “Appalling scenes from White House Correspondents dinner after shooter opened fire outside the main ballroom.”
He further said, “President Trump is thankfully reported safe. But this is another shocking incident involving his security.”
Piers Morgan raised a serious question saying, “How did shooter get this close on such a high-profile night?”
In another tweet, he said, “Appalling… but how the hell did he get so close on such a high-profile night with so many of America’s most powerful people in one room? This was a massive security failure.”
Meanwhile, following the shooting incident, a Buckingham Palace spokesperson said King Charles is being kept fully informed of developments and “is greatly relieved to hear that the President, First Lady and all guests have been unharmed.
The spokesperson further said, “As you would expect, a number of discussions will be taking place throughout the day to discuss with US colleagues and our respective teams to what degree the events of Saturday evening may or may not impact on the operational planning for the Visit.”
Meanwhile, royal expert Matt Wilkinson tweeted, “Breaking: The King and Queen have reached out privately to Trump and First Lady and are ‘greatly relieved’ no one was harmed in the Washington DC shooting overnight, sources say.”
“A major UK/US security review is now ongoing ahead of their arrival for State Visit on Monday,” the expert said.
King Charles and Queen Camilla are due to travel to the US for a four-day state visit beginning on Monday, and are set to meet with Trump at the White House.
It will be the first UK state visit to the US since the late Queen Elizabeth II's in 2007.
