'Devil Wears Prada 2' producers left 'embarrassed': Here's why
Anne Hathaway recalls her discussion with producers of 'The Devil Wears Prada 2'
In the Devil Wears Prada universe, models typically have a certain shape – a fact that has not sat well with the franchise star, Anne Hathaway.
So, during the sequel's production, she decided to raise the issue of body diversity to the top.
"I had seen that there were a lot of traditionally sized models in our movie, and I just know that this movie is for everyone," she tells etalk during the film's glitzy New York premiere.
"We also know in the last few years that the fashion industry can take a more inclusive approach to beauty standards, and I think that we're all kind of happier when it's like that, when everybody feels included."
Having said that, the Dark Knight Rises actress recalls springing into action and marching straight to producers.
"I just went up to the producers and said, 'Hey, do you think that we could?' And they looked up, and they said, 'We're so embarrassed we didn't notice, and of course.'"
At a surprising pace, the problem, Hathaway says, was solved within two hours. "And within two hours, suddenly, there were more girls there. It made me happy."
The Devil Wears Prada 2 hits theatres on May 1.
