Speaking about the future Queen, body language expert Judi James told the Mirror: “Kate's body language here defines her as the perfect and very active hostess, while the simple lilac dress with its 1940s inspired bust darts and the three rows of pearls look like a very powerful homage to the iconic styling of the late Queen herself on what would have been her 100th birthday.”

“Kate is being inclusive here, gently steering, directing and enhancing the mood with a series of warm touches, smiles and eye contact,” Judi said.

“In one pose she places a hand round William's back to 'showcase' him to the group as he appears to tell a joke, clutching a glass of drink in his hand.

She noted: “Her ritual is loving and flattering to her husband as she turns to face him and features him, throwing a cheek-raising and rounding smile of appreciation and playful humour as he delivers his line.”

Judi explained: “Kate registers a similar level of warmth with an older gentleman guest, whose hand she appears to keep hold of after their shake as she also places her free hand onto his arm and cocks her head in an upgrade ritual of added interest and affection.”
