With it being, what would have been Queen Elizabeth’s 100th birthday, her son and current monarch, King Charles tugged at heartstrings a few hours ago with his speech highlighting the life e and legacy of his ‘darling mama’.

But taking a trip back memory lane he’s always been one to shower her with praise, whether that be in his recall of her last years, or her love for Balmoral Castle, in Royal Deeside, a place where she herself spent many summers, even back when she was a small child.

According to the BBC he’s even said, “speaking from a personal perspective, Scotland has always had a uniquely special place in the hearts of my family and myself.”

“My late mother especially treasured the time spent at Balmoral, and it was there, in the most beloved of places, where she chose to spend her final days.”

For those unversed, the Queen passed away at age 96 on 8 September 2022, in that very estate that she so loved.

As for what he was doing when he actually heard the news of her having passed, that has been revealed in Robert Hardman’s book titled The Making of a King: King Charles II and the Modern Monarchy.

According to his findings, King Charles had been driving in Scotland, after having visited the Queen at Balmoral when he received sad news.

About that precise moment Mr Hardman writes, “King Charles III succeeded to the throne at the wheel. To be more precise, he had just turned off the B976 onto the back drive of the Balmoral estate and was driving through a part of the world as dear and familiar to him as any, when he learned that he was now sovereign of the United Kingdom and fourteen other realms, covering a large part of the Earth's surface.”

He also added, “On the afternoon of 8 September 2022, [Charles] was on an unmarked Scottish country road, at the wheel of his car, when he was first addressed as 'Your Majesty'. He had been to visit the Queen at Balmoral Castle earlier in the day and had then spent a few hours at his nearby home, Birkhall, before returning to the castle.”

In a separate documentary about her mother, Princess Anne, lovingly dubbed the ‘most hardworking royal’ also recalled how the Queen was always thinking of others, even when her final time was near because she didn’t want to make things “more difficult” bypassing away anywhere but Balmoral. But “we did try and persuade her that that shouldn't be part of the decision-making process," the Princess Royal recalled from her conversation last year. “I hope she felt that that was right in the end, because I think we did.”

What’s pertinent to mention is that a statue of the late monarch is also in its final stages from being presented to the world, and is to stand at Buckingham Palace in London.

The provisional budget for this project stands at £23 to £46 million. According to Hello! its being designed by Foster + Partners in collaboration with Michel Desvigne Paysagiste and will featured her sculpted in bronze. It will overlook the Mall at Malborough Gate in St James's Park, and even Prince Philip will be part of this design but his likeliness will reflect his support during her reign and will be nearby.

Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer also shared his excitement about this a week prior and says, “as our longest‑serving monarch, Queen Elizabeth II devoted her life to public service. The nation will commemorate her extraordinary reign with a memorial that offers a place of reflection for generations to come."

The King recently also gave a tribute to his late mom, and its aired on the Royal Family’s personal YouTube and Instagram accounts.

In it he says, “today, as we mark what would have been my beloved mother's 100th birthday, my family and I pause to reflect the life and loss of a sovereign who meant so much to us all. Queen Elizabeth's promise with destiny kept shaped the world around her and touched the lives of countless people across our nation, the commonwealth and beyond.”
